Chairman Arrington Responds to CBO Report on Net Cost of Illegal Immigration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report on the ‘Effects of the Surge in Immigration on State and Local Budgets in 2023’. The report shows that the Biden-era immigration surge amounted to a direct net cost of $9.8 billion to state and local governments in 2023 alone.

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) released the following statement:

“The cost of the border crisis is real, and finally – after years of claiming illegal immigration saved money – the CBO is confirming what we’ve said all along: Biden’s open border not only flooded our communities with drugs and crime, but cost billions of taxpayer dollars and drained the safety net programs on which vulnerable American citizens rely.

“This is just another reason why passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act – the largest single investment in border security and national defense – is so important. We must ensure President Trump has the resources he needs to permanently secure the border and do the first and most important job of the federal government – provide for the common defense.”
